Support bird conservation efforts and see more birds by attending a bird festival.
Here are our favorite upcoming ones:
Festival of the Cranes, San Antonio, N.M.
Thrill to flocks of Sandhill Cranes and snow geese at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. The Expo Tent will be back this year, but there will be no Fine Art Show. A favorite treat for many birders after a day of tours, talks, workshops and the evening fly-in of Sandhill Cranes is a green chili burger at the Owl Bar and Café. The whole experience feeds a birder’s camera, memories and soul.
Assategue Island Waterfowl Weekend, Chincoteague Island, Va.
This event is held at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Special guided walks and tours will be available on trails that are normally closed to the public. This weekend is a delight for birders and photographers as the fall migration peaks.
Colorado Field Ornithologists Annual Convention, Salida, Colorado
is the birding event of the year for Colorado birders. The 2015 meeting will be held in the beautiful mountain town of Salida on the Arkansas River. CFO will host a Thursday Welcome Picnic and have a full lineup of field trips, presentations of academic papers, exhibitor booths, and a Saturday evening banquet at the famous SteamPlant with a special guest speaker.
